Divorce or Civil Partnership Dissolution in England and Wales is usually an administrative process handled online and neither person is required to attend a hearing. Since the introduction of the new divorce laws in April 2022, there is no longer a need to give a reason for starting a divorce or dissolution application. The process can take as little as 26 weeks and can only be defended in very limited situations (such as where one party believes England and Wales does not have jurisdiction). Parties can agree to undertake the divorce or dissolution process together or one party can start the process on their own without the other party’s agreement.
